Mulikat Ayoola Akerele was born in Lagos on  February 28, 1959. She attended Olowogbowo Methodist School,Lagos, Ansar- Ud- Deen College, Isolo, Nigeria Hotels and Catering School which was run by the Federal Ministry of Commerce and the National Open University of Nigeria.

She holds the City & Guilds Certificate in Catering, a Diploma in Food Hygiene and a Bachelor of Science degree in Tourism. She has done a Master’s degree course in Public Administration. She has attended many management courses as well as catering and food hygiene conferences.

Mrs. Akerele is a lover of children. Although she trained as a caterer, her first career was in teaching. She made a mark in school proprietorship with Renix Kiddy Land, Ejigbo which is a nursery school she established in 1982.

Alhaja Chief (Mrs.) Mulikat Ayoola Akerele is a caterer par excellence. She joined the services of the Lagos State Government as a Caterer in 1988 and rose to the rank of Chief Catering Officer in 2008. She received the award for Best Caterer in Lagos State for the year 2003.

A stickler for time and quality improvement, she was often posted to head Hospital Catering Units with uncooperative staff. She would help sanitize the unit through sanctions and rewards as appropriate, leaving a positive mark before moving to a new post. She has a natural leadership talent in mentoring, coaching and supportive supervision. Many junior caterers have benefited immensely from her wealth of experience. She has worked in eight out of twenty-four secondary health facilities (General Hospitals) in Lagos state and served as the Head of Department in four of them.

She was until recently, the Chief Catering Officer and Head of Department of Catering at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital. She is a member of the Nigeria Hotels & Catering Institute, a member of the Infection Control Committee of LASUTH and a member of Lagos State Hospital Caterers Association. She has written and presented a number of papers on Catering, Food Hygiene and Infection Control in Hospitals.

She is a community leader and philanthropist who has supported many indigent students in pursuing their academic studies through the provision of full or part scholarships.

Alhaja (Mrs.) Mulikat Ayoola Akerele won the PSR Woman of Merit Gold Award in 2013.She is a devout Muslim and has performed the Holy pilgrimage to Mecca and Medina twice. She holds two religious titles of Otun Iya Adinni and Iya Suna respectively. She is happily married with children.
