Dooshima Yemisi Suswam is a successful architect and business woman. Her professional and business engagements have contributed quite a lot to the development of the Federal capital city of Abuja
She was born into the family of late Chief Albert Ayo Balogun of Emure-Ekiti in Ekiti State and Chief (Mrs.) Hannah Balogun of Kaiama in Kwara State. She is the nineteenth child of a family of twenty-one children.
She began formal education at St. Claire’s Nursery/Primary School, Oshogbo where she obtained the First School Leaving Certificate in 1979. Aside from her spectacular performance in academics, she excelled in social activities at this school. Yemisi proceeded to Federal Government Girls College, Oyo, where she served as the school’s Sports Prefect. Afterwards, she gained admission into the Federal University of Technology, Minna and graduated with a Bachelor of Technology degree in Architecture in 1992. Yemisi Susman bagged her Masters degree in Architecture in 1993.
She is married to Hon. Gabriel Torwua Suswam, a former Member of the Federal House of Representatives and erstwhile Governor of Benue State. As wife of the then Benue State governor, she was First Lady of the state for eight years.
Arch. (Mrs.) Dooshima Suswam, the “Teram Shashima U Suswam” worked with the Federal Capital Development Authority as a Supervisory Attache in 1989. She worked at the Ogun State University, Ago-Iwoye as a Supervisory Attache with E.P. Graph Consult, Ibadan in 1990. She served Arch Plan Consults Kaduna as a Supervisor in 1991. She also served the company as an Architectural Detailing Officer. She did her National Youth Service with the Federal Capital Development Authority in 1994.
Arc. Dooshima Y. Suswam stops at nothing in her quest to achieve success in all her endeavours. She recorded tremendous success in the six projects which she personally supervised in the above mentioned places where she worked.
For several years, Arc. Suswam has been self-employed. She has been the the Managing Director of Purpose Litz Ltd which is into unique Italian light fittings. She is also the Managing Director of Lonpe Ventures (office automation suppliers, stationery suppliers and interior decorators) as well as the Managing Director of All Purpose Shelters Ltd ( a design and construction company). Through All Purpose Shelters Ltd and Lonpe Ventures, Arc. (Mrs.) Suswam has executed projects which involved building conversion, renovation, design, construction, re-modification, extension and furnishing of several state-of-the-art buildings within Abuja metropolis and its environs..
This young and industrious woman stops at nothing to ensure that her best is brought out in every situation. She is regarded by many as a role model. Mrs. Suswam is a practicing Christian and a minister in the Redeemed Christian Church of God. She was ordained as a Deaconess due to her commitment to the propagation of the Gospel. She is a motivator and an inspiration to the youth. She supports and encourages her husband’s political career and those of other politicians around her.
It was in acknowledgement of her contribution to national development in the field of Architecture that she was conferred with the PSR Woman of Merit Gold Award in 2006.
