Clementina Abone is a high-flying academic and a dynamic member of the Thespian profession. An all-round performer, a seasoned playwright, a stage director and producer, she is an Associate Professor and a lecturer in the Department of Theatre Arts of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State.
An indigene of Anambra State, she had her tertiary education in Ibadan, precisely at the famous University of Ibadan where she bagged the Diploma in Theatre Arts, B.A. (Hons), Theatre Arts (1988), M.A. Theatre Arts (1994) and Ph.D, Theatre Arts (2005). An excellent scholar, Clementina Abone finished as the best graduating student in both her bachelors and masters programmes. That indeed makes her outstanding. Her areas of specialization are the Electronic Media and Sociology of Mass Communication.
She has authored many literary books and stage plays. She has also written many scholarly articles as well as chapters in books. She is currently a co-editor of The Creative Artist, which is a journal of Theatre and Media Studies. One of her several esteemed works is a screenplay entitled Revive Us which has been aired on many television channels.
Aside from her official classroom duties, she has served and is still serving Nnamdi Azikiwe University in several distinguished capacities. She was a member of the Committee on the Creation of the Department of Philosophy in 1995. She is currently, a member of the Publications Committee of the Faculty of Arts. She is a member of the American Studies Association of Nigeria, the African Council for Communication Education, the Society of Nigerian Theatre Arts and the Association for the Promotion of Quality Education in Nigeria. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria.
This woman has also served the society outside the academia. In 2008, she served as the chairperson of a panel of judges for the 2009 edition of Anambra State Cultural Carnival in Abuja. She served as the chairperson of the auditioning panel for the selection of artistes to represent Anambra State at the 14th National Festival of Arts and Culture in Abuja in 1997. She was also a resource person to the Anambra State contingent to the World Cultural Dance Championship in 1997.
Assoc. Prof. Abone is a member of the renowned Knights of St. John International (KSJILAUX) of the Catholic Church. She was a District Officer and member of the Board of Trustees for District I of the organisation between 2006 and 2012. She is a former chairman of the Literary Committee of the Annunciation Catholic Chaplaincy, CWO, Awka. She holds the title of Idi Ka Acholu (the ideal one) by the Catholic Women Organisation (CWO) of St Theresa’s Catholic Church, Ichida, Anambra State.
She enjoys imparting moral values to young people as well as sharing the word of God with her neighbours. She is married to Prof. Obele Michael Achonu who is an indigene of Ichida. Their union is blessed with six children.She is a 2012 recipient of the prestigious PSR Woman of Merit Gold Award.
