Hon. (Mrs.) Nagarta Bamaiyi, JP, distinguished herself as an educationist and school administrator.She is also a prominent community leader,politician and a voice for women.She once represented Numan Ward II at the Numan Local Government Council of Adamawa State.
The young Nagarta began her early education at Girls Boarding School, Numan from 1954 to 1958 and obtained the First School Leaving Certificate. She enrolled at the Women Teachers College, Maiduguri in 1959 and came out with the Teachers Grade III Certificate in 1963. Not satisfied, she proceeded to Government Teachers College, Numan in 1969 and earned the Grade II Teachers Certificate at the end of her studies there. Between 1973 and 1975, she was at the Advanced Teachers College, Kano where she bagged the Nigerian Certificate in Education. In 1977, she got admitted into Admadu Bello University, Zaria. She graduated from this institution in 1980 with a degree in Education.
Mrs. Bamaiyi started working as a Grade III Teacher in 1963. She became a Grade II Teacher in 1971. She was a Senior Mistress from 1976 to 1978. Due to her conduct and commitment to duty, she was promoted to the rank of Vice Principal in 1984. She was a Vice Principal for four years. In 1989, she was made Principal. She occupied this position until 1994 when she was appointed as Education Secretary. She was Education Secretary for seven years.
Owing to her track record in the educational sector, she contested for the post of a councillor in her constituency. Her contributions to her community and humanity at large endeared her to her people who voted for her massively. For many years, she was the President of the Adamawa Chapter of the Young Women Christian Association (YWCA).
She has travelled to Israel on pilgrimage. She received the Distinguished Women and Men Award in recognition of service to womanhood and humanity in 2006.It was in acknowledgement of her contribution to national development in the field of Politics and Leadership that she was conferred with the PSR Woman of Merit Gold Award in 2006.
Her hobbies are reading, gardening and composition of Christian songs for children. She is happily married with children.
