 Mrs. Motunrayo Irene Oni has made tremendous impact on Nursing Education in Nigeria. She has served diligently, meritoriously and is untired even in retirement.

She is the incumbent Principal and Head, School of Nursing, Sacred Heart Hospital, Lantoro, Abeokuta, Ogun State. However, her current position came after she retired as Director of Nursing Education in the Department of Nursing, Ministry of Health, Ogun State in the year, 2009.

Motunrayo was born on November 26, 1955 to Alhaji Salau Ibisomi and Alhaja Munirat Ayoka Salau of Otan – Ayegbaju in Osun State.

Her early education was at St. Stephen’s School ‘A’ at Modakeke, Osun State between 1963 and 1968. She attended Ife Girls’ High School Ile – Ife from 1969 to 1973.

She enrolled at the School of Nursing, Ijebu – Ode where she qualified as a Registered Nurse in 1977. She proceeded to the School of Midwifery, Yemetu, Adeoyo, Ibadan in 1978 and qualified as a Registered Midwife in 1979.

The youthful, vibrant, focused and determined Motunrayo, even after qualifying as a nurse and midwife, was not yet done. She proceeded to the University of Ibadan in 1983 for a degree in Nursing Education and graduated in 1986.

Before she enrolled at the University of Ibadan, she worked as a staff nurse, staff nurse/midwife and nursing sister in different parts of the old Western State of Nigeria. As a nurse educator, she worked at the School of Nursing, Eleyele, Ibadan which is now called Oyo State College of Nursing.

She later worked at the Ogun State School of Nursing, Idi–Aba, Abeokuta and School of Nursing, Ilaro, also in Ogun State.

It was in recognition of her contribution to national development in the area of Nursing Education that Mrs. Motunrayo Irene Oni was conferred with the Woman of Merit Gold Award in 2016.
